What Attic Ventilation Does

Attic ventilation moves hot, damp air out of your attic and pulls cooler air in. It works as a balanced system, with intake vents low at the soffit and exhaust vents high near the ridge. Air enters at the bottom, warms, rises, and leaves at the top. When that flow is balanced, your attic runs closer to the outdoor temperature. When it is not, heat and moisture build up, shingles age early, and the risk of mold and rot goes up.

Attic ventilation is a system, not a single vent. It needs two parts to work. Intake and exhaust must be balanced.

Intake vents sit low, at the soffit. They pull cool air in. Exhaust vents sit high, near the ridge. They let hot air out.
