Roofing Contractor in Pasadena, TX
Pasadena grew fast after World War II, and a lot of its homes still carry roofs on those original frames. Add Gulf storms and a small windstorm zone near the bay, and roofing here has a few twists. A roofing contractor in Pasadena should know them before the first shingle comes off.
STX Roofing is veteran-owned and has served the Houston area since 2016. We repair and replace roofs, fix storm damage, and install custom-fit gutters for homes and businesses across Pasadena. We know the local permit rules and where the windstorm line falls, so your job gets planned right from day one.

Are You in the Windstorm Zone?
Most of Pasadena is not. But part of the city is inside the state’s designated catastrophe area for windstorm coverage. According to the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, that only applies when a property is inside Pasadena city limits and east of Highway 146. Only a small eastern part of the city fits both.
If your home is in that area, a new roof needs a windstorm inspection while the work is underway. That inspection leads to a certificate of compliance, called a WPI-8, which you need for coverage through TWIA. The Texas Department of Insurance says to contact the inspector before repair work begins. Small repairs under 100 square feet that don’t touch the decking don’t need one.
If your wind coverage is through TWIA and you have storm damage, TWIA says to make only temporary repairs until its adjuster has inspected. You can also look up a home’s existing windstorm certificate in the Texas Department of Insurance’s online database. Tell us your address up front. Knowing which side of the line you’re on changes how the job is planned.
Pasadena's Permit Rules
Pasadena runs its own permit office. The city’s code requires a permit when roof repair or replacement covers more than 25% of a roof. Building contractors also have to register with the city each year.
The code also bans wood shingle and shake roofing on any roofing project, except minor repairs to existing single-family homes. And if work starts before the permit is issued, the city can put the job on hold and double the fee. Ask any roofer you’re considering whether they’re registered with Pasadena and who pulls the permit.
Post-War Homes and Aging Roofs
Many Pasadena neighborhoods were built in the decades after the war. Some of those homes may be on their third or fourth roof, and each tear-off can loosen or damage the decking. We check every board during a roof replacement and replace any that are soft or split.
Older homes also tend to have weak attic airflow. Heat and moisture build up and cook shingles from below. Good attic ventilation can help a new roof last longer.

Storm Damage Near the Bay
Pasadena sits between the Houston Ship Channel and the Clear Lake area, close to Galveston Bay. The May 16, 2024 derecho and Hurricane Beryl, which came ashore at Matagorda on July 8, 2024, both left damaged roofs across the area.
Wind damage can hide. A shingle can lift, break its seal, and settle back down. Our storm damage roof repair team looks for those broken seals, creased tabs, and loose ridge caps.
Our owner, Russell Mullin, is a former insurance adjuster and an Air Force veteran. If you file a claim, we can inspect first, meet your adjuster on site, and explain what we found.
Commercial Roofs Along the Industrial Corridor
Pasadena has a lot of warehouses, shops, and industrial buildings, many with flat or low-slope roofs. Those roofs carry HVAC units and vents that each need a good seal. Ponding water and open seams are the most common problems we see on them.
Our commercial roofing services cover TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, and metal. When the existing roof is still sound, roof coatings and restoration can add years without a full tear-off. Commercial work comes with a 2-year labor warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty.
Signs Your Pasadena Roof Needs Help
Check your roof from the ground after any big storm and once a year in between. Look for:
- Missing, creased, or lifted shingles
- Granules washing out of downspouts
- Water stains on ceilings or around vents
- Sagging gutters or soft fascia boards
- Daylight in the attic
Catching these early usually means a repair instead of a new roof.
Roof Age and Insurance Renewals
In our experience, many insurers start pushing for replacement once a roof reaches about 15 years. Some carriers raise it as early as 12. For owners of older Pasadena homes, that notice can come as a surprise.
Check that your policy lists the right roof age. The Texas Department of Insurance tells homeowners to confirm it with their agent and to report a new roof so the age gets updated. If you’re in the windstorm zone, keep your WPI-8 certificate with your records too. Read more about insurance renewals and older roofs.

Around Pasadena
Pasadena was founded in 1893. After the 1900 Galveston storm, Clara Barton of the Red Cross sent strawberry plants to help local farmers recover. The crop took off, and the city still holds a Strawberry Festival every year. Strawberry Road still runs through much of the city near where the old farms stood.
Today the city includes San Jacinto College’s central campus and the Armand Bayou Nature Center, one of the largest urban wilderness preserves in the country. We work across Pasadena and nearby Deer Park, La Porte, and Pearland.

If your home is in the zone and you need TWIA coverage, yes. The inspection happens while the work is underway, so plan for it before the job starts.
Do small roof repairs need a Pasadena permit?
The city’s code requires a permit when repair or replacement covers more than 25% of a roof. Check with the permit office for smaller jobs.

Yes. We repair, coat, and replace flat and metal roofs on warehouses, shops, and other commercial buildings.

Not on a new roof. Pasadena’s code bans wood shingle and shake roofing, except minor repairs to existing single-family homes. Synthetic shake or stone-coated steel can give a similar look.
