Roofing Contractor in Deer Park, TX

Deer Park grew fast after 1948, and many of its homes have had several roofs by now. Add Gulf storms and hot summers, and a lot of local roofs are overdue for a close look. A roofing contractor in Deer Park should know the homes, the weather, and the rules before quoting a job.

STX Roofing is veteran-owned and has served the Houston area since 2016. We repair and replace roofs on homes, rentals, and commercial buildings across Deer Park. Our owner, Russell Mullin, stays involved from the first inspection to the final walk-through.

A City Built in Waves

Simeon Henry West platted Deer Park in December 1892 and named it for the deer that roamed the prairie. Early years were rough. The city’s own history notes a 22-inch snowstorm in 1895 and the 1900 Galveston storm, which drove many settlers back north.

Growth came when Shell broke ground on a refinery in 1928. Residents voted to incorporate in December 1948, and by 1960 the city had about 5,000 people. You can read more on the City of Deer Park history page.

That timeline matters for your roof. Some of the city’s oldest neighborhoods date to the post-war boom. After several reroofs, the decking can be worn, and old flashing may have been reused more than once. We check every board during a roof replacement and replace the flashing, vents, and pipe jacks.

Are You in the Windstorm Zone?

Here’s a question we hear a lot. Deer Park sits right next to La Porte and Pasadena, which are partly inside the state’s windstorm insurance area. Deer Park isn’t. The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association lists only La Porte, Morgan’s Point, Pasadena, Seabrook, and Shoreacres in Harris County, and only east of Highway 146.

That means a Deer Park reroof doesn’t need the state windstorm certificate that some neighbors need. Your roof still has to be built for Gulf wind, and your city permit still applies.

Wind, Rain, and Storm Claims

The May 16, 2024 derecho and Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 both damaged roofs across southeast Harris County. Wind lifts shingles and breaks their seals, and the damage isn’t always easy to see from the ground. Our wind damage roof repair team finds those weak spots.

Storms also bring door-knockers who promise a free roof through insurance. Be careful with anyone who leads with the claim instead of the damage. We inspect first and tell you honestly whether you have a claim. Russell, a former adjuster, can meet your adjuster on site and walk through what we found.

If water is getting in, we offer emergency tarping to protect your home until the permanent repair is done.

Commercial and Industrial-Area Roofs

Deer Park is home to big industrial plants, and plenty of shops, offices, and service businesses support them. Many of those buildings have flat or metal roofs. Our commercial roofing services cover TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, and metal, plus coatings when a full tear-off isn’t needed yet.

Commercial work comes with a 2-year labor warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty. We also set up yearly maintenance plans so small problems don’t turn into big ones.

Roof Age and Insurance Renewals

Roof age drives a lot of renewal letters right now. We see carriers start asking about a roof at around 15 years, and a few do it sooner. Another tip comes from the Texas Department of Insurance. Ask your agent what roof age your policy shows. Then call them when you get a new roof so the record changes.

Got a letter already? We’ll look at the roof and give you a straight answer on repair versus replacement. Our guide on keeping homeowners insurance with an older roof walks through your options.

Gutters, Fascia, and Older Eaves

On older homes, the edge of the roof often goes before the middle. Gutters sag, fascia boards soften from years of overflow, and small animals find their way into gaps at the eaves. Those problems are easy to miss until a board gives way.

We check the whole roof edge during inspections. When we find soft wood, our fascia and soffit repair replaces it before new custom-fit gutters go up.

Warning Signs to
Watch For

  • Curling or cracked shingles on the south and west sides
  • Granules collecting at the ends of downspouts
  • Ceiling stains near vents, chimneys, or exterior walls
  • Daylight or damp insulation in the attic
  • Rusty or loose flashing around pipes

Any one of these is worth a call. We’ll tell you if it’s a quick fix or a sign of bigger trouble.

Around Deer Park

Deer Park calls itself the Birthplace of Texas. After the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836, the first treaty papers were drafted at Dr. George Moffitt Patrick’s cabin nearby. A replica of the cabin still stands in the city, and the San Jacinto Monument rises just to the northeast.

We work across every Deer Park neighborhood, from the older streets near Center Street to the city’s newer subdivisions. We also serve nearby Pasadena, La Porte, and Channelview.

Deer Park Roofing FAQs

Is Deer Park in the TWIA windstorm zone?

No. In Harris County, TWIA covers only parts of La Porte, Morgan’s Point, Pasadena, Seabrook, and Shoreacres east of Highway 146. Deer Park isn’t on that list.

Yes. We offer emergency tarping to keep water out until the permanent repair is done.

Yes. We repair, coat, and replace flat and metal roofs on shops, offices, and industrial support buildings.

Yes, for homeowners. We charge for inspections tied to a real estate sale, and that fee goes toward any repairs.

Yes. We offer roof financing on qualifying projects, with no penalty for paying early.

Yes. Our crew and office speak English and Spanish.

Not for TWIA purposes, since Deer Park isn’t in the TWIA area. Your roof still needs a city permit and should be built for Gulf Coast wind.

Look for missing shingles, pieces in the yard, or creased tabs that lift at the edges. Some wind damage only shows up close, so an inspection is the surest way to know.

Yes. We’ll inspect it and tell you honestly whether it’s likely to pass, needs a repair, or should be replaced.
